OLMEDA DE LAS FUENTES
Olmeda de las Fuentes is a rural municipality filled with countless corners that always surprise visitors. Located in the heart of Madrid Alcarria, this town is on the eastern metropolitan area of Madrid, within the area of Alcala de Henares and almost bordering Guadalajara.
Location of the municipality
Located in an area of Campinas east of the Community of Madrid, known as the Alcarria of Madrid. The town is located on the slope of a hill, descending into the Arroyo de la Vega who later joins the river Tajuña.
It belongs to the Arganda court, district of the countryside of the Henares, Madrid province.

History
The first written references are Olmeda on the Middle Ages, twelfth and thirteenth centuries, and always in connection with Alcala de Henares. From (previous few references have construction debris, ceramic and stone industry, very close to the current location of people, from the Bronze Age (1,700 BC). This town would consist of a core, probably associated with it fortified several cores and defensive control of territory, and several “farms” for agricultural production and livestock.
In 1564 it acquired the villa and Olmeda category becomes an autonomous town Alcala jurisdiction. In 1714 Don Juan de Goyeneche purchase the lordship of the town of Olmeda of the onion and set its first industry, created primarily to cater to the royal troops of textiles of very good quality. This activity was a time of great splendor in the town's history, both economically and demographically. In 1953, the change of name of the municipality, through its name Olmeda de las Fuentes, given the large number of sources in the term.
Emblematic figure in the history of Olmeda de lis Fuentes Pedro Paez, born in 1564, a missionary of the Society of Jesus, linguist, man of action, intellectual and architect, traveled East, Africa, India, built a stone palace of two plants on the shores of Lake Tana and Portuguese wrote in an impressive book, never translated into Castilian, on Ethiopia.
Patrimony
The main monument of Olmeda is the Church of San Pedro, which houses a major art gallery with works by painters such as José Frau, Alvaro Delgado and Alberto Moreno, among others. Besides these, Olmeda has attracted over the years many artists and painters, like Luis Garcia Ochoa, Vela Zanetti, Francisco San José and Pilar Aranda, Eugenio Granell, Joaquín Enrique Azcoaga Valseiro or due to the climate bonanza the richness of its landscapes, the peculiarity of their architecture of steep streets and whitewashed houses, and friendly and open character of its neighbors. Also worth a visit to the Interpretation Center of the Alcarria Madrileña, reserved space to publicize the wealth of the Shire paisa1ística through interpretive panels of the landscape, wildlife and a final panel that reflects the elements used in the work traditional farming. The landscape of moors, hills and valleys that make up the town of Olmeda de las Fuentes unit is part of the landscape of Lower Alcarria, at the lower end of the landscapes that occur along the gradient system-Vegas Central de Madrid. That is, be part of the Alcarria underrepresented in Madrid. Obvious merit consideration elm, from swelling in areas of water, known as “hanging on the Alcarria elm.” In addition to this unique natural environment in Olmeda find a good example of rural architecture of our towns, restored and preserved for the enjoyment of residents and visitors, such as folds and huts stone buildings of small dimensions that can be found in the Heras area.
Festivities and Traditions
Celebrations of Christ of Forgetting : Fourth Sunday of August. The eve night there are fireworks, Mass and procession on the day higher, and large tortilla Valmores Square at night.
Pilgrimage to Valmores : is celebrated on Easter Monday in the mall Valmores.
Spring Festival: Third Saturday in April . Popular picnic with musical performance in a natural environment of unique beauty.
Christmas Market : second Saturday in December. Promotion and sale of handicrafts of the region mainly, and other areas of the community. Throughout the day there are various activities, musical performances, juggling, storytelling crumbs accompanied with chorizo and wine of the earth.
